Macular degeneration (MD) is a medical condition affecting over 10 million Americans. Recent studies have shown that cannabis can be used to treat symptoms of MD and even work to regenerate cells. The healing power of cannabis has helped thousands of patients with MD improve eyesight, alleviate pain associated with MD and promote cell growth. Findings have shown that cannabinoids can increase light sensitivity, effectively improving low-light vision. Actor Roseanne Barr uses cannabis for her eyesight and advocates for the use of cannabis for optical diseases. Patients have reported that strains Northern Lights, Cinderella 99, Trainwreck and Purple Kush provide optical pressure reduction, lower blood pressure and even have anti-aging effects. The most common methods of cannabis consumption used to target MD are smoking, vaping and sublingual ingestion methods. MD can significantly worsen quality of life. Using cannabis regularly as medicine to fight this disease builds hope, strengthens our community and above all else- it heals.
